The Chief Engineer as a team leader is responsible for maintenance, operation, and repair of all vessel systems onboard ships. The Chief Engineer works 12 hours per day: approximately 6 weeks on, 6 weeks off rotational schedule.
Requirements
- Maritime Engineering School Graduate in good standing and/or a Designated Duty License, or equivalent
- 2 years experience as Engineer on 500-ton vessels, preferred
- Strong knowledge of diesel propulsion and electricity generating systems
- Ability to analyze and interpret drawings
- Professional demeanor; ability to use appropriate levels of tact and courtesy
- Must be a self-starter, able to handle multiple tasks, work with little supervision and work in confined spaces
- Strong time management skills; able to handle multiple tasks, set priorities and meet deadlines
- Crisis management; work well under pressure, act quickly and decisively using sound judgement
