Assistant Bridge Rater (Civil Engineer II)

The Assistant Bridge Rater (Civil Engineer II) is responsible for preparing Live Load Capacity calculations and rating reports for bridges of normal complexity, as well as performing Overload Capacity calculations and preparing overload reports for bridges of normal to moderate complexity. The position requires knowledge of bridge load rating and posting practices, familiarity with MassDOT Bridge Inspection Handbook and MassDOT Bridge Manual, and experience with AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation and AASHTOWare BrDR. A five-thousand dollar signing bonus is available for newly hired employees.

Requirements

• Prepares Live Load Capacity calculations of bridges of normal complexity using AASHTO specifications and MassDOT Standards
• Reviews Live Load Capacity calculations of bridges of normal complexity prepared by Consultants using AASHTO specifications
• Performs Overload Capacity calculations of bridges of normal to moderate complexity using AASHTO specifications and MassDOT standards
• Reviews Overload Capacity calculations of bridges of moderate complexity prepared by Consultants using AASHTO specifications
• Evaluates and recommends alternatives for improving live load capacity of existing bridges through review of available data, discussion, and calculations
