Laboratory Assistant

Requirements

• Prioritize incoming specimens
• Process patient specimens according to department safety and OSHA guidelines
• Draw blood samples from patients based on physician orders
• Generate and attach labels to specimen/blood samples
• Ensure specimen integrity and accuracy
• Communicate with patients and healthcare professionals
• Maintain a neat and clean work area
• Perform transportation duties and time stamp or computer verify laboratory requests
• Conduct routine inspection, maintenance and quality control checks on equipment
• Prepare patients for and administer tolerance tests or other tests specific to assigned area
• Perform clerical duties such as answering the telephone and maintaining records
