Facts checked November 2026. Every vendor claim below comes from that vendor's own pages, linked in the table and under Sources.

For the longest history, LinkUp sells employer-website job data back to 2007, PredictLeads offers flat files from 2015, and Revelio Labs sells postings from company sites and job boards from 2021, all on quoted contracts. For data that includes Indeed and LinkedIn, TheirStack, Coresignal, Techmap and Bright Data sell board-wide data, most of it at published prices. Hirebase sells employer-sourced history from 2023 per record through checkout, with a free count first. Free aggregate series come from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (JOLTS) and Indeed Hiring Lab.

Free public sources researchers use:

  • BLS JOLTS: official monthly US estimates of job openings, hires and separations, national and by state, from December 2000. These are survey estimates, not postings: 7,523,000 openings in September 2026 (preliminary). bls.gov/jlt
  • Indeed Hiring Lab job postings tracker: a daily index of Indeed postings for the US and 10 other countries or areas, compared with February 1, 2020 and refreshed weekly. How to choose

Long history for investing or academic panels. If your study starts before 2020, LinkUp (2007) is the only seller here with published history that far back. PredictLeads' flat files from 2015 come next. Revelio Labs is the option for research that needs deduplicated postings across employer sites and job boards, with its job-postings history starting in 2021. Expect a contract and a quote from all three.

Recent employer-sourced data, priced per record. If you need postings from 2023 on for a specific set of titles, skills, places or companies, Hirebase lets you see the count and price before paying and buy only that slice. Techmap sells whole-country archives from 2020 at fixed one-time prices.

Board-wide coverage, including Indeed and LinkedIn. TheirStack and Coresignal blend job boards with company sites, and Bright Data sells raw single-board datasets. Choose these if roles posted only on job boards matter to your question. Hirebase does not cover them.

Ongoing data rather than a one-off file. If you need a live feed, compare job data APIs instead: see the best job data APIs compared and Hirebase's API pricing.

Duplicates and reposts. The same job often appears on a career page, several boards and an agency site. Ask each vendor how it deduplicates and from what date. Techmap includes duplicates and flags them. Bright Data sells each board separately, so merging boards is up to you. For time series, also ask how reposts of the same role are counted.

Description text coverage. If you plan to analyze skills or wording, check what share of records carry the full description, not only a title and fields. Ask for this per year: coverage often changes over time.

Multi-location rows. Some datasets store one row per location. LinkUp's records are per job location, so a job listed in five cities counts five times unless you group the rows. Decide which unit you need (postings or locations) before comparing totals. Hirebase's historical exports also carry one row per location; group on company, title and posted date for one row per opening.

Licensing for research and publishing. Read the licence before you publish charts or share files with co-authors. Indeed Hiring Lab data is CC BY 4.0 with attribution. Commercial datasets usually limit redistribution, so ask whether derived statistics may be published and whether the data may be shared within a research team.

Buying historical job data from Hirebase

Hirebase's archive holds about 29 million expired jobs since 2023, with the same fields as live jobs. The jobs come from company career pages and 80+ ATS platforms such as Greenhouse, Lever, Workday and iCIMS. Hirebase does not collect jobs that appear only on job boards.

1. Check for free. A discovery search returns the match count, the count by year posted, the top hiring companies, sample titles, an estimate of how many matches include description text, and a price quote. You can filter by job title, keywords (skills, technologies, benefits), geography, company, and posted or expired dates.

2. Pay per record. Exports are priced per dataset:

RecordsPrice per record
First 1,000$0.12
Next 9,000$0.03
Next 90,000$0.01
Beyond 100,000$0.001

That works out to about $180 for 3,000 records, $490 for 20,000 and $1,340 for 150,000. You see the quote before paying, and you are never charged more. If an export fails, the payment is refunded automatically.

3. Buy without a plan. Each dataset is paid for through Stripe Checkout. You don't need a subscription.

The coverage caveat. Coverage grew with Hirebase's crawl. For a narrow segment, expect a few hundred records a year before 2025 and thousands a year from 2025 on. If your study needs dense coverage before 2025, a vendor with longer history will serve you better. The free discovery count shows what you would get before you pay.

FAQ

How much does a historical job postings dataset cost? Published prices as of November 2026: Techmap charges $49 to $5,999 per country, one time (US $5,999). Bright Data charges up to $0.0025 per record with a $250 minimum. Coresignal datasets start at $1,000 on a yearly contract. Hirebase charges per record, about $180 for 3,000 records or $1,340 for 150,000. LinkUp, Revelio Labs, TheirStack datasets and PredictLeads flat files are priced by quote.

Is there free historical job postings data? Yes, in aggregate. BLS JOLTS publishes monthly US job openings from December 2000, and Indeed Hiring Lab publishes a daily postings index from February 2020 under CC BY 4.0. Neither includes individual postings. For record-level data, Techmap offers free Luxembourg data, and Hirebase's discovery search shows counts and sample titles for free.

How far back does job postings data go? LinkUp: 2007. PredictLeads flat files: 2015. Techmap: 2020. TheirStack and Revelio Labs: 2021. Hirebase: 2023. Coresignal sells historical data but doesn't publish a start date, so ask. JOLTS openings estimates go back to December 2000, but they are survey totals, not postings.

What is the best job postings dataset for labor market research? It depends on the question. For national trends, start with JOLTS and the Hiring Lab index. For a long employer panel, look at LinkUp or Revelio Labs. For recent detail on specific titles, skills or companies, bought per record, use Hirebase or Techmap. Check deduplication, description coverage and licence terms before you buy.

Do job postings counts match official job openings? No. One opening can be posted many times, on many sites and in many locations, and some postings never lead to a hire. Treat posting counts as a measure of advertised demand, and compare trends rather than levels with JOLTS.
